The combined acceleration sensor measures longitudinal and lateral G-force as well as yaw rate. It feeds data to the ABS, ESP, and stability control modules so the system can detect skids, slope changes, and rollover risk. A fault disables ESP and may also trigger ABS warnings.
When to replace
Replacement is usually triggered by stored fault codes rather than visible damage. The sensor is solid-state and has no mechanical wear under normal use.

Common failure modes
Sensor faults are rarely mechanical, but environmental and electrical conditions cause issues.
- Internal MEMS element drift over time, producing zero-point errors
- Connector corrosion or pin damage causing intermittent signal loss
- Software-side incompatibility after ESP module replacement
- Loose mounting bolt allowing the sensor to vibrate independently of the chassis
