The intake air temperature (IAT) sensor measures the temperature of the air entering the engine, allowing the ECU to adjust fuel injection and ignition timing for optimal combustion. A faulty sensor causes incorrect fuelling, rough running, and reduced performance. It is often integrated into the MAF sensor or mounted in the intake tract.
The IAT sensor is a thermistor that changes resistance with temperature. Failure results in the ECU using a default value, causing suboptimal engine performance.
