Common failure modes

Cable-type window regulators use a series of plastic sliders and guide blocks to convert the motor's rotary motion into vertical glass movement. These plastic parts are the weak link in the system.

• Glass tilts in its track and binds at the top or bottom of travel

Installation notes

Lower the glass fully before starting work so it is not suspended by anything when the regulator clips are removed. Support the glass securely — tape it to the door frame or have a second person hold it. Fit new sliders and clips, reattach the cable to the pulley drum, then test the window through its full travel before refitting the door trim.
