The idle air control valve (IACV) regulates the amount of air bypassing the throttle body to maintain a stable idle speed. A faulty valve causes erratic idle, stalling, and poor cold-start behaviour. Cleaning or replacement restores smooth, consistent idle operation across all engine temperatures and load conditions.
The IACV adjusts idle speed based on engine temperature, load, and electrical demand. When it sticks or fails, the engine cannot compensate for changing idle conditions.
Many IACV faults are caused by carbon build-up on the valve pintle. Cleaning can restore function, but replacement is needed if the motor or winding has failed.
