Commonly searched OE numbers fitting Sunroof from the TecDoc catalogue.
A sunroof or panoramic roof panel allows natural light and fresh air into the cabin, enhancing the driving experience. Sunroof systems range from simple tilt-and-slide glass panels to large panoramic units with built-in blinds and complex mechanisms. Common failure modes include broken glass, seized or worn drive cables, failed motor units, and blocked drainage channels that cause water ingress. At CarParts247 we stock sunroof components — glass panels, motors, seals, cables, and drains — to help you restore full sunroof function.
Sunroofs rely on a mechanism with multiple moving parts. Each has potential failure points that can cause the panel to stick, leak, or fail to operate altogether.
Regular maintenance significantly extends sunroof life. Blocked drains are the most common preventable cause of interior water damage.
Blocked drainage channels are the most common cause. Sunroof frames have four drain outlets that can clog with leaves, debris, and sediment. Clear the drains first before suspecting a seal failure.
The motor can often be replaced as a unit — it typically has 2-4 mounting bolts and an electrical connector. Access varies by vehicle. Recalibration of the open/close travel limits may be needed after replacement.
Drive cables wear from friction and corrosion, especially if the mechanism is not lubricated. Cables can snap, jam, or jump the drive gear. Replacement usually requires full mechanism removal.
A cracked panel should be replaced promptly. A structural crack can propagate and the glass may shatter. Temporary UV-resistant bonding film can stabilise the crack for a short period only.
Most sunroofs need to be recalibrated after the battery is disconnected. With the ignition on, hold the close switch until the panel is fully closed, then hold for a further 3-5 seconds. Refer to your owner's manual for the exact procedure.
